The initiative aims to strengthen the quality of reviews, build reviewers' confidence, and promote excellence, ethics, and consistency in the peer review process. Notification: CMSA publishes GenAI guidelines for assessment

  
The Artificial Intelligence Working Group of the Education Committee of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) is proud to announce its 'Guidelines for the Use of Generative AI Tools in Assessment' published on 5 September 2026. Moderators, examiners, and conveners alike who wish to use Generative AI for assessment purposes are encouraged to consult these living guidelines, which are available here to all members of the public. Users of Learn@CMSA and Examine@CMSA will also be able to access the guidelines, which will be updated annually or more regularly, as needed.

The Author Assist Programme (AAP) pairs emerging authors with experienced mentors to help prepare manuscripts for submission. The programme supports authors who are preparing work for submission to JCMSA and operates independently of the journal’s peer-review process and manuscript management system. If you are an early-career author seeking guidance, or an experienced academic wishing to mentor and give back, this programme may be of interest. Website Update: AI in Research: Transparency and Compliance Reminder

  
In 2025, the inclusion of AI policies became compulsory for all SciELO SA journals. Authors using AI-assisted technology must disclose their use in manuscripts to ensure transparency, accuracy, and trust. Guidance is available in the Plagiarism, Fabrication and Artificial Intelligence Policy page and the Submission Guidelines under 'AI-assisted technologies' in the formatting requirements.
